welcome to the THERAPY with laurie…

A holistic mind-body healing experience.

therapy for individuals in OR, WA, CO & FL

You might be asking, "why?" or "why now?"

Do you find yourself struggling with anxiety, feeling the weight of depression, or the overwhelm from a loss in your life? Perhaps you are just trying to find a firm ground to step on due to painful and traumatic life events and need a safe space to explore your thoughts and feel the emotions that have been numbed, kept secret, or ignored and pushed down because it hurts too much to feel them. In counseling, I help you to find answers to your questions, to make meaning of them and ultimately experience healing, growth and find your own authentic self.

In therapy I partner with you.

Through the integration of a strength's based approach to counseling, I utilize various therapeutic interventions and modalities including behavioral therapy, mindfulness, trauma-informed and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), somatic experiencing, sensory based mind-body psychology, psychodynamic, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

I specialize in trauma and post-traumatic growth. My passion as a therapist is to come alongside you, to help navigate the issues that keep you feeling stuck and disconnected from your yourself and others. Wherever you're at, and whatever has become intolerable such that you are now bravely seeking out help... I am here to gently guide you to your goals. Let’s work on true, deep healing and leave the bandaids in the cupboard where they belong.

COURAGE doesn’t require we have all the answers. COURAGE comes when we are ready to face the questions we’ve been avoiding.

Treatment Specializations

  • Like members of a family, a person's inner parts can take on extreme roles or subpersonalities. Each “part” has its own perspective, interests, memories, and viewpoint. A core tenet of IFS is that every part has good intention even if its actions are counterproductive and/or cause dysfunction. There is no need to fight with, coerce, or eliminate our parts; the IFS method promotes internal connection and harmony to bring the mind back into balance.

  • CBT involves cognitive challenging, refocusing, and reframing our thoughts. We will explore underlying schemas that impact your thoughts and behaviors. You may need to work on improving communication skills, practice assertive, effective, and self-affirming expression of thoughts, feelings, emotions, needs and boundaries.

  • Somatic Experiencing® is a body first approach to dealing with the symptoms of trauma that are often physical as well as emotional. It helps create new experiences in our body; ones that contradict those of fight or flight tension and overwhelming helplessness. Healing isn’t about reclaiming memories or changing our thoughts and beliefs about how we feel, it’s about exploring the sensations that lie underneath our feelings and beliefs, as well as our habitual behavior patterns.

  • Trauma-Informed Narrative Therapy

  • SFT views families as having unique systems, where there are family roles , rules, and power dynamics that can be unhealthy or hurtful. Through SFT interventions & techniques, we can shift underlying negative behaviors that create hurtful rules or power dynamics within family relationships.

  • Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

  • EFT is a stress reduction technique which can improve an ever-broadening range of conditions through tapping on eight basic meridians or acupuncture points. A great digital app resource is: The Tapping Solution @ www.thetappingsolution.com
